Lori Gayle O'Grady

Lori Gayle O’Grady passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and generosity. Lori was married to the love of her life, Howard Eugene O’Grady, for 39 years. They were united in marriage on July 26, 1987, in Everson, Washington, and made their home in Bellingham, Washington, where they raised their blended family. Lori found her greatest joy in family and community. Her door was always open, and her home was a place of warmth and welcome. In her healthier years, she loved relaxing with family around bonfires, enjoying water balloon fights, canning and baking, swimming in her brother’s pool, and going on hikes and adventures. Lori had a deep love for nature—especially her flower garden, birds, deer, and the wildlife that frequented her home. She delighted in sunsets and feeding seagulls at the waterfront. She enjoyed dining out, visiting specialty coffee shops, and finding happiness in the little things. One of her simple joys was blowing bubbles out the car window, spreading smiles to strangers. Lori loved sharing flowers and vegetables from her garden with neighbors and took great pleasure in helping the homeless and those less fortunate. A woman of strong faith, Lori worshipped the Lord wholeheartedly and was devoted to her Christian community. She enjoyed watching Christian programs, reading the Bible, and praying for the world and for others, sharing her beliefs openly and lovingly. Lori graduated from Bellingham High School, Class of 1972. She worked briefly in the grocery and restaurant industries before becoming an aide in the Bellingham School District. After an injury, Lori retired from the workforce and devoted herself fully to her home and family. Lori is survived by her beloved husband, Howard O’Grady of Bellingham; her children: Randy Swendt (Brandi), Kevin Swendt, Tricia Tankersley (Kurt), and Heather O’Grady; her brother, Dale McAtee (Patti); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Leatrice McAtee. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Calvary Worship Center, located at 3030 Northwest Avenue. Lori will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Green Acres Cemetery.
