Loretta May Scheltens

Loretta May Scheltens passed away and became our guardian angel on January 5, 2013 after a courageous seven year battle with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. She was 69 years old. Loretta was born on October 24, 1943 in Bellingham, WA to Walter and June (Arntzen) Grinton. Loretta grew up in Bellingham. She obtained a G.E.D after attending Bellingham High, where she was active in sports. She married John Harold Wyngaert in 1960 in Bellingham. They were married for 18 years and had 3 children. In 1990 she married James Albert Scheltens. Loretta was a member of Life Church and International Order of Foresters. She enjoyed genealogy, visiting with friends and relatives in the US and Canada, camping, fishing, and staying abreast of current events. While in high school, Loretta worked at the sandwich shop across the street. She worked at the Kelley Farquhar Cannery in Ferndale. While she was a homemaker Loretta sold Avon and Tupperware. Loretta also worked many years at K-Mart in Bellingham, and she ran a grocery store in Namu, BC for a short time. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sisters, Shirley Joneli, Charlotte York, Jay Grinton, Sharon Grinton; brother-in-law Benjamin Hulse; nieces Kathryn York, Belinda Kempton and grand-niece Jessica Kempton; also her ex-husband John Wyngaert whom she stayed friends with after their divorce. Loretta is survived by her daughters and son Julie (Greg) Parmenter, Jon Wyngaert, Connie (Grant) Gilbert all of Ferndale, WA; her brothers and sisters James Grinton of Bellingham, WA, Delores (Lowell) Hardison of Torrence, CA, Bill Grinton of Tacoma, WA, Darleen Hulse of Snohomish, WA, brother-in-law Richard Joneli of Sedro Woolley and sister-in-law Donna Grinton of Burlington; her grandchildren Chassidy, Michelle (Leo), Kevin, Jon, and Amy; her great-grandchildren Jon and Max; her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and several good friends including James Scheltens and other relatives. Farewell Tribute Information A funeral service will be held at Moles Farewell Tributes Bellingham, 2465 Lakeway Dr, Bellingham at 12:00 pm, Friday January 18, 2013, with a reception following. There will be a private family graveside at Woodlawn Cemetery.
