Obituary

Joyce Elaine VanZile, 84, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024. Joyce was born on February 4, 1940, to Herbert and Ester Dickman. She graduated from Mount Baker High School before continuing on to business college in Seattle, before ultimately opening and operating her own hair salon as a beautician. She married Melvin (“Mickey”) VanZile and resided in Acme, WA until 1994 when they moved to Sedro Woolley, WA.

Joyce enjoyed going to church on Sundays and taking drives up to Birch Bay to go clam digging or just to sit and enjoy the ocean on a sunny day. After retirement, she loved to spend her winters in Arizona, travel throughout the United States, and take cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends, hosting countless BBQs and holiday dinners.

Special thanks to the many Memory Care workers at The Courtyard of McHenry, IL, as well as the Hospice team who cared for her with such compassion.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Ester Dickman, and her husband Melvin (“Mickey”) VanZile. She leaves behind her daughters Denise (Rob) Caswell of Mount Vernon, WA and Lisa VanZile of Island Lake, IL, her grandchildren Cody (Rachael) Ferrenti, Cory Ferrenti, Michael (Maddie) Caswell, her great grandchildren Kairi, Broden, Blaine, and Callum, her brother Richard (Nancy) Dickman and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale.
