Obituary

Jose Maria Sonora passed away on February 18th, 2021.

Jose was born in Manila, Philippines on August 18th, 1951 to Dr. Jesus & Purification Sonora. He was the youngest, and the only boy in the family, as he had four older sisters, Benita, Jesusa, Rosemarie, and Theresita.

Jose immigrated to the United States where he joined the U.S. Navy, and served ten years as Electrician Mate on aircraft carriers. He left the Navy as Petty Officer First Class. He joined Federal Civil Service as an electrician working on submarines in Alameda, CA. Jose was transferred to Jacksonville, FL to work on fighter jets, and did so for twenty-six years. He retired to Bellingham, WA to be close to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Benita and Donald Lipayon and Rosemarie and David Loomis.

His last few years were spent on his five-acre farm enjoying life to the fullest. He loved planting and fishing and enjoyed good cooking. He is survived by his sons, Joseph, who is a realtor, and Jeffry, who is a film preservationist in the Philippines, and his daughter, Sam Jeline, who is a graduate of Cal Poly and is a Sociologist in California.

He may not have been the sweetest guy, but he would fight tooth and nail for his family and friends. Rest in Peace Joey.
