Obituary

Joan (Jo) Carol Jackson, age 87 of Bellingham, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2024 after a 4 year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Up until the end, Joan was able to maintain her kindness, love of family and friends. She was thankful for all that life had to offer and lived a life in service of others. She will be deeply missed.
Born on June 22, 1937 in Champaign, Illinois, Joan is survived by her daughter Misty Scott and her children Alex, Brigham and Madelyn, son Dwain Scott his wife Susie and their kids Emma and Jack, grandchildren Venancio Jr (Ben) and Kitty Zuniga, sister Mary Lou Matthew and brother Ted Campbell Jr.
Her passion was helping others; whether it was family, as a retail clerk, volunteering at the Senior Center or with the Red Hatters. She was always there to help in any way she could. She had a phenomenal work ethic and brought integrity to everything she did.
A loving mother and homemaker, Jo was a remarkable cook, who thrived on preparing meals and treats for family and friends, especially over the holidays. Her love of gift giving was renowned. She enjoyed spending weekends “up river” at the family camp site on the Skagit river. For many years she was an avid bowler, enjoying success in many tournaments. A dedicated sports fan, Jo attended many of her kids and grandkids basketball, volleyball, baseball and football games over the years. Traveling with her sister Mary Lou was something she treasured. Together they toured Europe and many places in the US, playing pinochle at every stop. Later in life she enjoyed shopping with her daughter Misty at the thrift shops and antiques stores in Whatcom and Skagit counties, and attending church service at Christ the King Community Church.
She cherished the lifelong friendships she made, especially when she lived on Northwest Rd in Ferndale, Erie Street, Ankar Park Place and as a retail clerk at Ennen’s Thriftway in Bellingham.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ken Jackson, daughter Charlie Joy Morgan, son Stan Scott, siblings Robert, Steve, Mable and Patty.
Services and burial will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park, 5700 Northwest Rd. Ferndale WA on Friday July 12th, viewing at the Greenacres Chapel will begin at 8:30am with service to follow at 9:00am.
The family wishes to thank the staff at HomePlace Special Care at Burlington and Hospice of the Northwest’s support for Jo during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Northwest or the HomePlace Special Care at Burlington.

  1. My heartfelt condolences to all Jo’s family.
    Unfortunately I had not heard Jo had passed. I would of definitely attended her service. I was fortunate to work with Jo at Ennens Foods. So many great memories of her. She was a hoot!
    I’m so grateful I was able to attend her 80th bday celebration.
    She will be forever in my heart.

  2. Oh Jo, what a wonderful lady she was. Always positive! We had many laughs over the years. Condolences to the family. She was a joy to know and I am so thankful she touched my life. She’ll always be remembered with a smile.
