Obituary

Our beloved and caring father, Howard Huntley, passed away peacefully in Bellingham and went to be with his Lord Jesus on August 15, 2015. He was born in a logging camp in Everson, WA, on Dec. 24, 1919 to Russell and Ann Huntley. Howard was raised on a small farm, where during a period of difficult times he learned the values of hard work and persistence, helping support his family, and as a teenager gained employment in the logging industry until leaving to his call of duty. He served his country faithfully as a combat engineer in the African and European theatres of WWII under the command of General Patton. Because of his honorable conduct he was among the first wave of veterans to return home after the war. He met his future wife, Edna Tiede, at a local dance and they married in 1947 and were together for 46 years. Howard subsequently contributed to his role as part of the greatest generation by pursing a long successful career as a journeyman carpenter and raising his family. In the initial years he worked evenings and weekends to build two family homes, the second of which was home from 1956 to August 2013. Howard was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite memories were of his fishing trips to Kodiak, Alaska, where he had access to premier salmon fishing areas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen, his wife, Edna, and grandson, Charles Huntley. He is survived by his son Douglas (Julie) Huntley, his daughter Deborah (Joe) Twardoski, his grandsons Wade (Melissa) Huntley and Joshua Huntley, and his great-grandchildren, Ben and Abby Huntley. He is also survived by his dear friend, Vesta Blum, who brought much joy into his latter years.
