Obituary

Gordon Lee Den Adel, age 89, passed away in Bellingham on Sept. 18, 2017. One of 4 children, Gordon was born in Bellingham on April 1, 1928 to Cornelius and Louise Den Adel. He attended Bellingham Schools, graduating from Bellingham High. He also attended WWU. In 1954 he married Betty Brient and together they shared almost 64 wonderful years of marriage. In addition to working as Administrator of Sehome Convalescent Center, Gordon was owner of Bay Engraving in Bellingham, a business still owned and run by his family. Gordon loved the water, and could often be found “raking the beach.” Whether on water or snow, he had a passion for skiing. Gordon shared this passion with the many people he taught to snow and water ski, especially his kids. There were many memorable family ski trips. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glenn Den Adel, and sisters Theresa Williams & Evelyn Goodman. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Den Adel, son Kurt (Linda) Den Adel, daughters Lise (Bill) Mendelson & Cynthia (Mathew) Seldal, nieces: Kathleen, Sue, Diane, Tanya, & Christine, Nephews Larry & Mike, and his much adored grandchildren: Michelle, Stacy, Nick, Bailee, Julie & Kirby, and by equally adored great-grandchildren: James, Marie, Jackson & Charlotte. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donation may be made to Bellingham Christian School, The Whatcom Dream, & Northlake Community Church.
