Obituary
Douglas Kent Haug went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 10, 2017, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Bellingham, Washington on October 26, 1940 to Olaf and Bertha Haug (both deceased).
He graduated from Bellingham High School. Following graduation, he worked for Northern Pacific Railway, Burlington Northern, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads as they continued to merge. His career lasted forty-two years.
He married Vera Case in February of 1972. He adopted her two children. Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vera; their children, Teresa Bryan (John) of Kelso, WA, Jeffrey Haug (Melissa) of Bellingham, WA, and Jason Haug (Kara) of Federal Way, WA; five grandchildren, Patrick Haug, Ashley Lower, Brent Davie (Cassie), Brandon Haug, Jonathan Haug; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Carol Dayton, of Bellingham, WA, two sisters-in-law, Martha Haug of Marysville, WA, Joanna Haug of Bellingham, and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Duane, Frain, and Maurice.
Doug was a very kind and gentle man whose family was most important and deeply loved by him. He and Vera enjoyed many winters in Yuma, AZ and several cruises with family and friends. Doug was a lifetime Christian and most recently a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the local Alzheimer’s Society at 1301 Frazier St. Suite 4-1, Bellingham, WA 98229. All are invited to a graveside service with reception following at Greenacres Cemetery on Friday March 17, at noon.
