Charles Patrick Daniels

On July 28, 2014 at 10:20am Charles (Pat) Patrick Daniels, born July 12, 1936, made his final set. Those of us that loved him know the net was full. Thanks to their father and to the chagrin of their mother, Pat and his best friend and brother, Larry became commercial fisherman in 1955. They fished from Puget Sound to Bristol Bay Alaska. Pat gillnetted for nearly fifty-five years. Pat was in the Air National Guard in High School, attended Bellingham Technical College and was part of the Carpenters Union and then tested #1 on the Firefighter exam and was offered a full time position in the Bellingham Fire Department in 1966. He turned that position down to fish on the most beautiful boat in the Sound, the St. Patrick. Working side by side with his brother Larry, Pat bought a mold from Canada and began building boats. By 1979 he was back to Bristol Bay and then spent the next 30 years in Petersburg, Alaska, his second home, fishing along side the Nielson brothers from Lummi Island. Pat was loved for his amazing sense of humor. His humor was dry and never sarcastic. His stories were authentically well told and loved. Some of it might have been a stretch, but that was ok, because people laughed and like any good fisherman the fish and the stories just got bigger. Most of his friends were women and his love of women led him to be a top supporter for the Western Washington womans basketball team for almost 26 years. You could not miss him sitting up high in the bleachers, once again with his best friend and brother, Larry at his side. Pat was a lover of art and a major supporter of all Northwest artists. His home was a gallery of excellence, showcasing his love of fishing and nature of the Alaskan waters. He was a brother, a son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great-grandfather. And although he was great at all these roles, none did he play better than that of being the most loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Alvina Daniels, his loving wife Chariett, his brothers Dennis and Michael, his sisters Michaeline Percich and Josephine Frierson and niece Lori Ann Daniels. He is survived by his brother Larry (Sandra); step-son Stan Bianchi (Kathy Stauffer); step-daughter Diane Allen; nephew Ron Daniels; grandchildren Darren, Michael (Laurie), Kevin (Monica), Scott Bianchi; sister-in- law Mary Dryland; his ever precious great grandson, Samuel Julius Bianchi and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. Farewell Tribute Information A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 4:00pm 7:00pm at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, 355 Harris Ave., in Bellingham, WA.
