Betty Ann Fuller

Betty Ann Fuller (nee Horgen) 90, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth, parents John and Annie, brothers John and Jim and sisters-in-law Jane and Dixie. Survived by bothers Don and Art (Kathy). Loving mother of Stephen (Debi), Karen Day (David), Marsha Jensen (Mark) and Scott (Kristin). Loving grandmother of Jonathan (Rosa), Bethany (Matt), Kristin, Tim, Justin, Joel, Amanda (George) and Allison (Caleb). Cherished great-grandmother to Mackenzie, Danielle, Riley, Andrew, Rhett and Ava. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Betty was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington. She excelled in school as valedictorian, a member of the school band and was voted prom queen. During high school she travelled to London with the Salvation Army. Although born in the US, she became a naturalized Canadian citizen (and a member of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire) and maintained dual citizenship (for which she was very proud). She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and all her extended family. She met her future husband, Ken, while playing cornet in the Salvation Army band. She was first chair, cornet to his second chair – a memory that still makes the children smile (sorry Dad). She had an enduring love of music and was an exceptional player of not only cornet, but the trumpet, piano and organ. Although she was extremely competent reading music, she could also play almost anything by ear and could sing any one of hundreds of hymns from memory. As a result of Ken’s career mobility, Betty lived in 17 different homes in 9 different cities and towns throughout her life. She took each move to a new place in stride and always made the new location a family home very quickly. Betty was an expert in creating fun traditions for her husband and children for all the holidays each year – including the annual “find your present by solving the riddles” on Christmas morning. She was an excellent cook and consummate host to extended family and the many friends they met throughout their lives. She and Ken would invite church members they did not yet know over to Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding on an almost weekly basis. Her favorite dish to cook for her family was Grandma Crombie’s hash – and it was a long-standing family favorite. When not caring for children, Betty worked her entire adult life (well into her 80’s) in accounting and recordkeeping. She had a gift not just for music, but for numbers as well. In addition to work, she volunteered her accounting skills in service to missionary groups Andes Evangelical Mission and Sudan Interior Mission. Faith in Christ Jesus was the foundation of Betty’s life. She was singing her favorite hymns even within the last hours before she went to be with her Lord.
