Betty Backstrom Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Backstrom, age 83, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Saturday February 12, 2022. She was born on May 9, 1938, and the world became a better place. She was fun-loving and always told stories of the good times she had growing up with her brother Frank, sister Jeanette, and her cousin Burt. She met her husband Ken in 1955 and they were married 66 years. Becoming a mother was Betty’s greatest joy. As a mother to 3 children she was loving, kind, generous, and made sure to teach her children the love found in Jesus. Her devotion to the Lord and faithfulness to the church changed many lives over the course of her life, including those in her own family. Betty went by many names, but her favorite that most everyone would call her was Maa. Maa was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, making sure she was present at every event, from birthdays to ball games in the rain to making sure you knew she supported you, often toting a Diet Coke with a napkin wrapped around it. Maa was contagious in her joy, bright smile, and soft spirit. She was a teacher when the moment called for teaching, a dear friend to the deepest degree to any who needed one, a counselor to any who needed an ear, and she was that quiet helping hand when God whispered to her that someone was in need. But most of all she was the ultimate Mother, exemplifying what it means to be a kind and loving mom and grandma, who was really good at spoiling. There are not enough words to describe the incredible ways she has blessed our lives and the piece that is missing without her here. She is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Lori (Ronny) Davis, sons Brad (Margie) Backstrom, Danny (Heather) Backstrom, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 27 nieces and nephews, and 38 great-nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 25th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Greenacres Chapel (5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA), followed by a graveside service at Greenacres Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m., and a celebration service at Living Water Fellowship Church at 3:00 p.m. (4767 Guide Meridian, Bellingham, WA).
