Wayne Arthur Greenough

Wayne Arthur Greenough, a cherished family man and accomplished individual, passed away in Bellingham, WA, on July 24, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on February 19, 1932, Wayne was the beloved husband of the late Juantia “June” Greenough and the devoted son of Iva and Bryan Greenough. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Wiley. Wayne was a deeply dedicated family member who imparted his love for movies, comics, and historical memorabilia across generations. He was renowned for his kindness, devotion, and unwavering commitment to family. His legacy of affection and dedication is evident in the hearts of his nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and five great-great-great-nieces and -nephews. Wayne’s professional accomplishments were as varied as his interests. He was a published author of 11 books and an accomplished actor, performing in over 12 plays. His portrayal of “Oscar” in “The Odd Couple” remains one of his most memorable roles. He studied film, TV, and theater under Peter Breck in Vancouver, Canada, focusing on voice-over training in Scottish and French dialects. Wayne’s passion for the arts extended to writing, photography, and filmmaking, enriching the lives of those around him. A proud graduate of Western Washington University in 1959, Wayne dedicated 31 years of his career to teaching 4th grade at Nooksack Elementary School. He also served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954, demonstrating his commitment to service and education. Wayne’s favorite pastimes included writing, collecting comic books, and capturing family moments through photography. His niece, Lora Anne Rawley, fondly recalls Wayne’s dedication to preserving family memories, such as a video of her grandchildren on their first birthdays, which now serves as a cherished keepsake. Wayne is survived by his nieces Diana O’Hara and Lora Anne Rawley; great-nieces Tobi Melton, Tricia O’Hara, and Dina Carpenter; great-nephew Christopher Rawley; great-great-nieces Kaylee Melton and Cara Carpenter; great-great-nephews Jake Melton, Kyle Carpenter, and Brady Carpenter; and many cousins. In honoring Wayne’s memory, we celebrate a life rich with love, creativity, and an enduring legacy for the Greenough and Ferguson families.
