Viola Evelyn Mazza

Viola Evelyn (Avery) Mazza, 98, of Bellingham, WA passed away in St Joseph Medical Center, Bellingham, on March 30, 2013. One of a family of six girls and three boys, she was born on November 16, 1914 in Lake Orion, Michigan to Ethel Maud Oakley Avery and Oliver Henry Avery. Her family moved to Pike, New York that same year. She married Albert Angelo Mazza on February 17, 1937 in Olean, New York and moved with her husband, an employee of the Mobil Oil Corporation, and with three children to Ferndale, Washington in 1954. She has lived in Whatcom county ever since. She has, over the years, enjoyed horses, making jam, doing crossword puzzles, reading Western and Mystery stories and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She attributed her longevity to growing up in the country and taking care of family. Having lived through the Great Depression and several wars, she had the opportunity to witness phenomenal population growth and some of the most important changes and vital inventions in the world, including paved roads, TV, penicillin, insulin, the telephone, the Interstate Highway System, refrigeration, electricity, radio, automobiles, microwave ovens, advanced permanent waves, indoor plumbing, toilets and bathtubs, VCRs and DVD players, airplanes, satellites, computers and the moon landing. She is preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1985. She is survived by her sisters, Catherine Scutella of Rochester, New York, Grace Bathurst of Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter Barbara (Moser, Frank), sons Ronald and Michael (JoAnn), granddaughters Kerry, April and Sara, grandsons Mark and Steve, all of Whatcom County and grandson Gary of Tacoma, Washington. In addition, four great-grandsons survive her: Matthew, Dalton, Cody and Damien and a great, great granddaughter, Adrianna. Farewell Tribute Information A funeral tribute to honor Violas life will be held on Friday April 5, 2013 at Greenacres Memorial Park 5700 Northwest Drive Ferndale, WA.
