Stanley Lionel "Stan" Zemont

Stanley Lionel Zemont passed away on June 3rd 2023 in Bellingham WA, at age 98. He was born to parents Rose and Stanley Zemont on November 19th 1924 in South Fayette PA. Stan joined the US Army in 1943 at just 19 years old, and served until January 1946. He then served in the US air force from January 1948 until December 1953. 20-year-old Sgt. Stanley L Zemont was an Infantry Squad Leader who served in Europe during WWII. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Europe- Africa- Mid. East WWII Medal with Three Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal WWII, WWII Occupation Medal Germany, Medal for Humane Action, and the Army Presidential Unit Citation. On May 10, 2019 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA he was awarded France’s Highest Award as (Knight) “The French Legion of Honor”. After the war he went to college in Chicago and worked for Hughes Aircraft for 32 years. He worked on different Missile Programs, worked on as a Configuration Management Administrator, and then became a Hughes Field Representative so that he could have the opportunity to get out and see some of the world. In 1983 Stanley married his wife Mariel, and they were happy together the rest of his life. When he retired after 32 years, he decided to settle down in Washington after falling in love with the place when he was stationed there for work. Stan focused on enjoying his life and spending time with his loved ones. Stan travelled with Mariel, gardened in his yard, went boating and spent quality time with his friends. Stanley leaves behind his wife Mariel, daughter Heide, and grandchildren Crystal, Dalen, Beau, Tammie and Danna. He will also be missed by his nieces Sarah and Sandra, as well as four other nieces/nephews and six great grandchildren. Stanley is predeceased by two of his children, Adrianne and Dale. Stan loved taking long road trips, reading about space, gardening, painting, watching educational programs, and taking care of animals. He will be remembered for caring so deeply for the people around him. Stan was an admirable disciplined fighter, who had a wonderful sense of humor, and an enormous heart. He was gentle, loving, and compassionate. Stan made an impact on many lives and will be remembered for how beautiful a person he was inside and out. A celebration of life will be held for Stanley on June 10th, at Bayview chapel in Moles Bellingham at 2pm.
