Patricia A. Beard

Patricia Beard, age 92, recently died in Lynden, Washington. She was born in Everett, Washington in 1920. She was the oldest of three daughters and two sons born to Helen and Ralph Dolloff. Pats mother was a homemaker and her father owned Dolloff Motor Company. He also had a dance band that played all over the Everett area. Pats love of music started early on and she started taking piano lessons at age nine. After high school she studied music at the University of Washington. Pat left college after two years and married her first husband, C. Vincent Paddock, now deceased. He worked at a paper mill, gave voice lessons and played the saxophone. Pat taught music, dancing and played the organ for first the Methodist and then the Presbyterian churches. The couple had two sons; Gary who now lives in South Carolina, and John who was killed in Vietnam. She is also survived by a grandson, John Paddock, a sister, Virginia Taylor, and a brother, Bill Dolloff; as well as two nephews, Bill Taylor and John Dolloff; and four nieces, Laurel Taylor, Kathleen Taylor, Susan DeVries and Amy Gullett. Pat and Vince played in dance bands throughout the Port Townsend, Washington area for many years. Pat then found time to go back to college and earned her degree in education. Pats second husband was Norman Beard, also now deceased. He was a retired military man and also was a musician with a dance band. Pat and Norman managed mobile home parks in several different cities primarily in Texas and California. Pat would form dance groups and bands with the residents of these parks, as well as teach piano and dance. After Norman passed away, Pat continued to travel and eventually moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon with her friend Lonnie Sitts, deceased, where she played the organ for her church and gave piano lessons. Patricia next moved to an assisted living home, Lynden Manor, in Lynden, Washington, where she lived happily for the last seven years. Pats enthusiasm and love of life were always very evident. Gardening, knitting and other handwork, walking and music were Pats favorite pastimes. She had a wonderful way of getting people involved and when asked if she would help get a chorus started at Lynden Manor she gladly accepted. She also played the organ for many of the church services.
