Mickey Ghio

On a bright and sunny Tuesday afternoon, we lost a beloved member of our community. Mickey Ghio left us on April 7 after living a full life filled with adventures and much success as a real estate broker. Originally an electrician, he left California in 1974 to pursue a new career in real estate. After working at Kelstrup Real Estate, he joined his cousin, Frank Muljat, to form the Muljat Group Realtors. His career was marked with success from the very beginning, and he quickly rose to become a top selling agent; a position that he maintained for many years. Mickey’s son Kirk joined with him at The Muljat Group a few years before he retired in 2001. The Ghio Guys were a great team, and Mickey was always excited to hear about the success of his son in the same business that he enjoyed so much. Mickey was born on May 13, 1939, in San Pedro California to his parents, Jimmy & Minnie (Zuanich) Ghio. In 1961, he married Carole (Boston). Their marriage was a testament to a lifelong devotion to each other, lasting 64 years. In addition to real estate, Mickey was an avid sportsman. He traveled to Mexico to pursue saltwater fishing, Canada for his lifetime devotion to fly fishing and Montana for hunting opportunities. He once took an incredible trip to the Aleutian Islands with his son Kirk to hunt reindeer. This was a trip of a lifetime and a snapshot of his love for adventure. In 1975, he and his dear friend Jerry Henderson founded the Friday Tightliners, a local fishing group that met every Friday for lunch. In his later years, he and Jerry were one of the few remaining members able to attend weekly meetings. Mickey was also a dedicated blood donor, and should you go to donate yourself, you will see his name on the tree of life as someone who saved countless lives through his incredible dedication in giving back to the community. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Minnie and his daughter, Michelle. He is survived by his wife, Carole of Bellingham, his son, Kirk (Karen) Ghio of Blaine, sister Janis Heuser of Gold Beach Oregon, and grandsons, Riley of Bow, and Reed, of Bellingham. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
