Laura May Lane Ts’emts’emoyie’ Bumble Bee Sunrise June 22, 1964 Sunset December 13, 2022 Laura May Lane was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bellingham, WA. She was the third child of Art & Darlene’s nine children. Throughout her life, she would be the one that others would look to for love and friendship. She was beauty, she was grace, she was strong, feisty, protective, resilient, and she was a fierce advocate for taking care of others in her care. Her childhood years growing up at Sandy Point were her beautiful foundation of love, family, friendships, and life on the great Salish sea. The endless days of summer were often spent with siblings, cousins, and friends on the beach, in the water, off into the woods, and up into the trees. Riding bikes, riding horses, running, skipping, and dancing her way into the hearts of our loved ones. Laura & Cathy were always together, wore the same types of dresses that Mom (Darlene made with love), and were often mistaken as twins. Great Grandma Myrtle (Bailey) Harnden would call them her ‘Bumble Bees’ – because they were always fluttering and bouncing around, from one thing to another. Laura’s high school and young adult years were like no other, with her beautiful sweet loving smile, and gorgeous locks of feathered blonde hair, she had the famed popularity of the 70s & 80s, like Farrah Fawcett of Charlie’s Angels. Everyone wanted to know Laura Lane, to be friends with her, or to be just like her. These were the times – these were the days, of being young and carefree, to be – young at heart. The magic of the wonder years. This was when she met the love of her life and captured the heart of Leon Jarvis Solomon. He charmed her with his handsome good looks and his nice sporty red 4×4 jeep. He would drive anywhere to find her or be with her, including picking her up from Chemawa Indian School (where she was going to HS) and running away with her. Being young and in love, Laura & Leon were always together. He went fishing, she went fishing. He went crabbing, she went crabbing. No matter what it was, they were together. They were soon blessed with their children: Misty Lee, Travis Craig, Leon Magnum, and Ashley Leeann. Their young family brought our Lane & Solomon families together to celebrate special occasions, birthdays, and holidays. Laura was close with Lucy & Jim Solomon, the Wilburs, and Corderos – Leon’s family, they welcomed her as their own. Laura has a special place in her heart for her niece Tess Cordero – who would call Laura her second Mom. Our gatherings were always fun-loving, joyous, and full of wonderful traditional foods. The warm heartfelt love & laughter filled the spirit of the occasions cherished by all with loving memories. While raising their children and taking care of their family, Laura’s dream was to become a nurse. She never lost sight of her dream and decided to pursue it at Bellingham Technical College. Laura graduated from the ‘Licensed Practical Nurse’ program in 1989, ‘Laura May Lane, LPN.’ Laura & her friend Cheryl both graduated with their LPN that year. The family was so proud of Laura and this accomplishment with this nursing profession, that Uncle Virgil Lane gave her the feisty nickname “Hot Lips – Houlihan,” from M*A*S*H. Cheryl shared many stories of where they worked: St. Joseph’s, and St. Francis, to name a few, but when they went to work at Lummi – Cheryl went to work with the youth, while Laura went to work with the elders. This was where Laura found the love in her profession, in caring for the elders with her heart, compassion, and understanding. Sometimes it wasn’t easy, but it was always important. She loved her job. The elders loved Laura. Fond memories of Laura will be in our hearts, mind, and spirit forever. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like listening to music, reading books, coloring, and going for a ride, or walks on the beach. But she loved her grandsons LaDaneon & Lamont, and her children the most. She loved the family times spent together, especially the birthdays, and her birthday that she shared with her sister Theresa and nephew William. Family gatherings and wonderful stories: fireworks season, fishing, crabbing, clam digging, BBQs on the beach, trips over to Portage, boat rides, and so many more. We will cherish each and every one of these stories – forever. … She is survived by her loving mother – Darlene (Finkbonner) Lane, loving children – Misty Lee Wells (Robert), Travis Craig Solomon, Leon Magnum Solomon, and Ashley Leeann Solomon, her grandsons LaDaneon Lee Revey & Lamont James Wells, her forever friends/siblings – Cleo Sutton (Don), Arthur C. Lane III, Candice Wilson (Bob), Jonathon Lane (Chantelle), Theresa Lane (TJ Chavez), and Mary Henry (Dwayne). Her 24 indulgent nieces and nephews, her loving aunts & uncles, countless cousins/relatives, and an abundance of friends. … Preceded in death by her loving father – Arthur Christopher Lane II, beautiful sister Cathy Mary Lane, and handsome brother Raymond John Lane, paternal grandparents Art & Christine (Placid) Lane, and maternal grandparents Fred & Velma (Harnden) Finkbonner. – – – God saw you were getting tired when a cure was not to be. So, He closed His arms around you and whispered, “Come to me.” You didn’t deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.
