Harry Paul Pagels

Resided in Bellingham, WA Harry Paul Pagels was born in Sacramento, California on Aug. 29, 1926 to Harry Albert Otto Pagels and Walda Wally Neudeck Pagels. Harry served on the Air Craft Carrier the Intrepid in WWII. After the navy he moved to Bellingham and attended Western Washington College where he was student body Vice President and was named in the book, “Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities. Before graduating with a BA in education, he met Carol Irwin and they were married in 1950. Harry participated in many local clubs and organizations but he was the happiest being a part of the local Jaycees. He was Jaycee President, Man of the Year and Jaycee International Senator. Harry’s passion was photography and toted his camera around his neck much of the time. He took professional photos as well as candid photos for his family, friends and events. Harry and his wife created the Bellingham Buyer, a local weekly paper that focused on local events, businesses and people. Later, he worked for KGMI radio where he was sales manager for 25 years until he retired. In retirement, he was past president of Cedar Grove Association, where he lived for 35 years, as well as volunteering for many roles within the park. He will be most remembered for his wit and one-of-a-kind sense of humor that made people smile and laugh up until his last day. His self-titled name Big Hair followed him throughout the years. Harry taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, laughter and love. He was a mentor and friend as much as he was a husband, dad or grandparent. His arms of acceptance and love were always open to everyone. Harry is survived by his wife Carol of nearly 63 years and three children, Gloria Irwin, Steve Pagels and Diane Pagels. He also leaves five grandchildren (Nathan and Amber, Joe and Karen, Shaun, Shara and Jessica) and six great-grand children (Thomas, Destani, Alexandria, Sydney, Lelend and Corwin). Farewell Tribute Information All who knew Harry are invited to his Celebration of Life Open House on Sunday, October 13th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove Club House, 4915 Samish Way, Bellingham.
