Gisele Charlotte Dunn

Gisele Charlotte Dunn, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 31, at the Bellingham at Orchard. She was 94. She began an incredible life, August 8, 1920, in St. Maur, France, near Paris. Gisele was born to Charlotte and Vital Delers. She was raised in Couven, Belgium. She met the love of her life David Dunn, an American GI, whose unit was repairing a bridge destroyed by the Germans near the end of World War II. After the war, in 1946, she married Dave in Couven. They began their married life on Lummi Island. She had two children, Charles and Mary. After five years, they moved to a small farm near Ferndale on Axton Road. As Dave began work at the new Mobil Refinery, there were many occasions such as shutdowns, where she had to feed the cows and do other farm chores. She was as wonderful wife and mother, and a hard worker. Her faith was so important to her. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ferndale, WA. Gisele was very active in the altar society and St. Margaret’s Guild. Gisele also participated in the Northwest Harvest. Along with Dave, she was very involved in the DAV (Disabled American Vets) and VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). She was the state president of the DAV Auxiliary for several years. Gisele was an exceptional knitter, kitting hundreds of stocking caps and lap robes for the veterans at the VA hospitals in Seattle and Fort Steilacoom. With her development of dementia and Alzhiemers, she moved to Silverado, now the Bellingham at Orchard. She often attended mass at Sacred Heart Church in Bellingham and participated in many of their activities. Gisele was preceded in death by her husband Dave, her brother Roger Delers and sister Antoinette, Boguin, her brother-in-law, Rod Dunn and daughter-in-law Judy Dunn. She is survived by her son, Charlie Dunn and his wife Char, and her daughter Mary Turtaien, and her husband Bob, brother-in-law Alen Dunn and sister-in-law Rita Dunn. Also surviving her are grandsons Scott, Erick, and Aaron, and granddaughters Amy and Danielle. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 6pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ferndale, WA. A funeral mass will be held at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in Bellingham, WA, Thursday, February 12, 2015. Memorials can be given to the Alzheimers Society or Whatcom Hospice. The family so much appreciates the staff, especially the caregivers at Silverado and the Bellingham at Orchard. Their loving care made Gisele and her family feel cared for at every moment.
