George "Jody" Jay Provias-Johnson

George “Jody” Jay Provias-Johnson, born August 6, 1951, in Bellingham, Washington, passed away peacefully there on April 25, 2026, after a long battle with COPD. George was preceded in death by his father, George John Provias of Bellingham; his mother, Shirley May Rucker of Bellingham; Shirley’s second husband, George Milton Johnson of Bellingham, who adopted him and lovingly raised him, shaping the man he became; and his wife, Patricia Reynolds Johnson of Bellingham. George graduated from Sehome High School in 1969. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from March 19, 1970, to April 11, 1972. From July 24, 1971, until his discharge in April, he fought in the Vietnam Conflict on a PBR (patrol boat river) as a gunner in the “Brown Water Navy”, a dangerous assignment he carried with pride. In recognition of his bravery and service, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He served as the Quartermaster aboard the USS Tom Green County. He remained proud of his military service throughout his life and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Following his military service, George built a long and respected career in construction, working in both commercial and residential building. His work took him across Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, and along the I-5 corridor from Bellingham to Seattle. He was also a proud partner in Framers Inc., where he dedicated many years to his trade. George was a private man with a big heart and was known to be a kind soul. He deeply loved Bellingham, Washington, where he proudly made his lifelong home and never wanted to be anywhere else. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed gaming, working with his hands, and later discovered a love of art, teaching himself to create while he was convalescing. He cherished his Harley and the freedom of long rides on the open road. George is survived by the love of his life, Sharon; his sisters, Wendy (Hank Vossbeck) of Lynden, Washington; Tanna (John Huntley) of Bellingham, Washington; Stacey Provias of Lynden, Washington; Lesha (Mark Jungwirth) of Mill City, Oregon; and his brother, John Johnson of Casa Grande, Arizona, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Sharon’s children and grandchildren, who became his cherished family and brought him great joy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PeaceHealth Whatcom Hospice in honor of George’s memory. George will be remembered for his quiet strength, his service to his country, his craftsmanship, and the kindness he showed in his own steady, understated way. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. An Inurnment for George will take place at Greenacres Memorial Park on Friday, May 15th at 2pm. May his memory be a blessing.
