Elder Smokey Joe Roberts IV

Sunrise: February 19, 1999 - Sunset: May 28, 2026 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, Elder Smokey Joe Roberts IV (Tel-A-Sut), who journeyed to the spirit world May 28, 2026, at the age of 27. Smokey was born February 19, 1999, in Bellingham, Washington, to his loving parents, Patsy Wilson and Joe Roberts III. In June 2024, he proudly received his Indian name, Tel-A-Sut, which he carried with deep pride and respect for his culture, family, and traditions. A graduate of Lummi Nation School’s Class of 2017, Smokey dedicated himself to serving his community through many positions but he was most proud of being a Corrections Officer at Yakima Corrections. On September 20, 2024, Smokey married the love of his life, Rennae Bill, beginning a marriage filled with laughter, friendship, and unconditional love. Together they created countless memories and brought out the best in one another. Smokey loved the outdoors and embraced the traditional lifestyle of a hunter and gatherer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, picking huckleberries, and spending time in the mountains with family. Sports were a lifelong passion, especially football and softball. Through softball, he built lifelong friendships and connections throughout Indian Country. Known for his humor, Smokey loved making people laugh. Whether he was teasing family members, talking smack with friends, or sneaking up to scare someone, his playful spirit brought joy to everyone around him. He was also known for his love of cooking the perfect steak, golfing, gaming, and spending time with those he loved. Above all, Smokey cherished his family. He was a favorite uncle, a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a dependable presence in the lives of many. His kindness, generosity, strength, and love touched countless people. Smokey leaves behind a legacy of laughter, tradition, friendship, and family. Though all our hearts are broken, will forever carry his stories, teachings, humor, and love with us. Smokey is survived by his wife Rennae Roberts; his parents Patsy Wilson and Elder “Joe” Roberts III; his grandparents, Robin and Carol Wilson, Patti and Lawrence Wilbur, and Sharon Roberts; his siblings, John Perrin (Danielle), Marissa Wilson, Maria Roberts (Frank), and Tashina Roberts (Westin); and his beloved nephews and nieces, John Jr. and Kylee Perrin, Frankie and Kawai Rabang, Charles and Jocelynn Jefferson, Dianna and Taylor Hoskins, Kye, Raelynn, and Kade Hoskins, Evamarie Jefferson and Joseph Hoskins. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his love, laughter, and friendship. Smokey is preceded in death by grandpa Elder Smokey Roberts II and uncle Hank Hoskins Sr.
