Edith Wielenga

Resident of Lynden EDITH WIELENGA (1929-2013) On December 22, 2013, after suffering two strokes in 3 weeks, our beloved mother and grand-mother, Edith Wielenga, went to be with the Lord. Mom was born on November 17, 1929 to Peter and Bertha Weg in Worthington, Minnesota. When she was in eighth grade, her family moved to Lynden. In 1953, she married Marve Wielenga, and they settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where, in addition to raising 6 children, she worked in retail clothing sales. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, traveling, and playing cards with friends and family. Upon retirement, our parents moved back to Lynden, catching up with 5 of their kids that had already settled in the Northwest. In those years she volunteered for World Renew, the Lighthouse Mission, various hospitals and the library. She also crocheted blankets for the Helping Hand for Babies organization. Her love for kids led her to teach crafts, songs, and Bible stories to 3 and 4 year old children at four churches. She enjoyed playing games with her many grandchildren as well as attending their sporting events and school programs. She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 53 years, Marve, brother Benny, and grandchildren Eric Wielenga, and Emily and Joseph Babcock. She is survived by her brothers Pete (Betty) Weg, Henry (Joyce) Weg, and Wes (Carolyn) Weg; children Dr. Glenn Wielenga, Linda (Robert) Pauw, Brenda (Jeffrey) Babcock, Gary Wielenga, Sandra (Mark) Crossler; Gregg (Sheila) Wielenga; grandchildren Dalles, Travis, and John Wielenga; Brittany, Noah, and Zachary Pauw; Ian and Addison Babcock; Jacoby Crossler; Amanda (Tom) Postma, Nathaniel, Audrey, and Anna Wielenga; and great-grandchildren Lacie Pauw and Tenleigh Postma. Though a lung condition caused her daily life to be a bit of a struggle in recent years, she made it her purpose to spend her days in prayer for others. She was amazed at the miracles that continued to happen around her, and spoke of them often. And you just know that in her beautiful peacefulness, she never ceased praying even these last few weeks. We want to thank all the people that were so kind and helpful at the hospital and the rehab center, and to all who prayed, visited, and sent flowers and cards. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things are passed away.
