Charles Dale Manner

Of Bellingham, Washington Charles Dale Manner passed away peacefully following a brief illness May 7, 2014. He was born in Bellingham, December 10, 1926 to Cecil Chichester and Jonathan Manner. He had a very full life. Dale grew up in Ferndale, Washington. After graduating from Ferndale High School in 1944, he attended the University of Washington with an Engineering focus. He joined the Army to support the United States mission in WW II; his unit was the first MP Unit to land in Japan after the atomic bombs dropped. He was very proud of service to his country. After returning from Japan, Dale worked for Manner Chevrolet, the family car dealership, eventually co-owning and managing it with his mother. The dealership was sold to Mert Gribble which eventually became Jerry Chambers Chevrolet of Bellingham. After that, he transitioned to general construction and built houses in Boise, Vancouver WA, and Everett. He retired in Everett. His hobbies included hydroplane racing in Seattle (crewed for the Miss Wahoo during college days), camping, boating, dancing, water skiing, entertaining friends and family, and travel with his wife. He was a member of the University of Washington’s Lambda Chi Alpha, Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, Bellingham Yacht Club, Ferndale Masonic Lodge, Ferndale American Legion Post #0154, and also retired as a Volunteer of Ferndale Fire Department after 25 years of service. Dale’s favorite activity was traveling with his beloved wife of 62 years, Pauline. They traveled throughout the San Juan Islands while boating in their early years, had many road trips to the Oregon, Alaska, the lower 48 states, and Scandinavia. He is preceded in death in by his wife Pauline Jane Manner (Brue), mother Cecil Manner (Chichester), father Jonathan Manner and two sisters Joann Gustafson (Manner) and Pauline Manner. He will be greatly missed by his three children, Joe Manner (Jeanne McCarty), Jim Manner, and Marcia Rogers (Darrell); six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Dale was truly a person who enjoyed family, friends and life. He loved to laugh and enjoyed every element of life. His passions included cars, boats, hunting, fishing, football, baseball, music, and the University of Washington’s Lambda Chi Alpha. His zest for fun, adventure, positive attitude, determination, hard work, integrity, honesty, loyalty and resilience were his hallmarks. He lived for his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great children, family and friends through and through. He will be dearly missed by all. Dad, you had a wonderful life! Continue to soar!
