Betty Jean Collings

Betty Jean (Peters) Collings passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 103. Betty was born January 3, 1922, in Portland Oregon to Howard and Marion Peters. She was the eldest of 4 children, Shirley Taylor, Howard Peters and Robert Peters and a stepsister, Doris Dixon all of which predeceased her. Betty moved to Whatcom County when she was 4 years old. She was raised in Bellingham, met and married her husband, Boyd L. Collings (who preceded her in death in 1981) and they moved to Lynden in 1949. It was there they raised their family of 4 children, Boyd E. Collings of Bellingham, Randy Collings of Bellingham, Susan (James) Baird of Bellingham and Craig (Cindy) Collings of Spokane. Betty was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Betty graduated from Bellingham High School in 1940. She worked all of her adult life and retired from the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation office after 26 years of service in 1982. She was a member of the Maple Leaf #58 Order of Eastern Star. Betty had a love for travel, traveling all over the U.S., Europe as well as Asia. She led groups to Branson, Missouri for eight years for Bellingham Travel. Her favorite place to travel was Hawaii, never missing a year in over 40. She enjoyed knitting and tatting and watching the Mariners and Seahawks. Betty attended The Lynden Community Church over 50 years, volunteering within as well as the Bellingham Senior Center and other organizations. She moved to Bellingham in 2004 to Ankar Retirement Park where she resided till 2019 in which she then moved to Orchard Park Assisted Living. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Orchard Park and the Whatcom Hospice team for all their care and support. Memorial donations are suggested to The Shriners Hospital for Children, (3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Rd. Portland, OR 97239-3009) or any charity of your choice. Betty will be laid to rest alongside her husband Boyd in Greenacres Memorial Park on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00am officiated by Pastor Ken Van Kooten. A “Celebration of Life” will be held later on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00p.m. at the Ankar Retirement Park clubhouse, on Kellogg Rd., Bellingham, WA.
