Allan Arthur Schultz

Allan A. Schultz went Home to be with his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2015. He was the son of the late Albert and Katie (Gruidl) Schultz and was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, his sisters Dorothy, Helen and Ione, and his brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Donna, his daughter Kathi, his son Gary and wife Sylvia, and granddaughters, Linnea and Claire as well as other cherished relatives and friends. Allan and Donna have said that their life has been arranged in chapters. The first contained the growing up years near the farming community of Upsala, MN. Their marriage in 1951 and the years of raising their children, mainly in California, constitutes the second. Allan was proud to have been a Marine, and he received his education in electronics during those years. At the time of the early space program he worked for a company in Southern California that supplied the data handling system in the spacecraft and tracking stations. He traveled extensively, installing these, and was able to “rub elbows” with the astronauts of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules. Church and School activities, family camping trips, and a hobby making jewelry pretty well rounded out life. The death of their son, Jeff, at the age of 19, changed the focus of Allan and Donna’s life, and they began working with the grieving, first in Southern California, then in Spokane, WA. God closed the occupational doors in Spokane and opened the door to a remote location on the Navajo Reservation, where they served as missionaries for six beautiful years. Next came seven years serving as hospital chaplains with Native folks in Albuquerque, NM. Retirement found them in Bellingham, WA, where they were able to spend time with people of the Lummi Nation. More chapters. “Blessed”, they would say. He was also a member of the Mount Baker Rock and Gem Club for over 15 years. The last chapter, for Allan, is unending, as he begins eternity with Jesus. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 15th at 2:00 PM with Pastor Paul Petersen officiating. Family suggests that any donations be made to Bellingham Covenant Church and Whatcom Hospice, where he received such excellent and loving care.
