Obituary

Wes Ulrich (92) of Bellingham, WA passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. He was born to Wesley E. Ulrich Sr. and May Swaim on June 22, 1925 in Cape Girardeau, MO and was the oldest of eight children.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Imogene (Gene) Ulrich; daughters, Gale Huisman and Dawn Eggert; grandsons, Hans, Peter, and Yola; granddaughter, Tawna; great grandson, Quincy; great granddaughters, Makayla, Johnny, Charly, and Emberly; and many nephews, nieces, and their families. He is also survived by three brothers, Jean, John, and Jay. Preceding him in death are his brothers, James, Jerry, and Joe; and sister, Wanda Voss.

Wes retired from the Bellingham Herald as a photo engraver after 39 years. A proud WWII veteran, Wes served in the Army as a Medical Aidman. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ and served the church in various capacities. Wes was a volunteer at the Bellingham Visitors and Information Center and for Whatcom County’s Meals on Wheels. Wes and Gene enjoyed raising and competing with their beloved Schnauzers and were active members of the Mount Baker Kennel Club. He also found pleasure in raising flowers, especially roses and mums. Always a good sport, Wes played Hide n’ Seek with his grandkids well into his 80’s. He was talkative and had a way of engaging strangers into conversation.
