Obituary

Wendell Oliver Cowen was greeted by his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 11th, 2013.

Wendell was born on September 19, 1929 in Wellsford, Kansas to Marshall and Audrey Cowen.

He served in the US Army for 3 years during the Korean War. He was married to Oleta (Sanders) in 1952, they were together for almost 57 years. Wendell retired from Diehl Ford in 1995.

His hobbies were his woodworking and his yard.

He loved a new adventure. In his 60s he parasailed and snorkeled in Hawaii and went to the waterslides at Birch Bay. He rode rollercoasters with his grandchildren when he was in his 70s and was very proud of the fact he had visited all 50 states. For over 20 years he took his grandson Matt to lunch every Saturday. He had lunch at Coconut Kennys every Friday. Wendell was a sweet gentle man. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oleta and his parents Marshall & Audrey (Galbraith) Cowen. He is survived by: Daughters, Debie (Tony) Abbott, Adamstown, Maryland; Diane (Dave) Bergh, Ferndale. Grandchildren, Wendi (Scott) Shipe, Maryland; Crystal Arbogast, West Virginia; Mandi (Guy) Caldwell, Everson; Matt Bergh, Ferndale, Mike Bergh, Oregon; Matt (Heather) Abbott, Maryland. Eight great grandchildren and three great great granddaughters. Sister, Lou (Ed) Power; Brothers, Gayle (Sue) Cowen and Dennis (Arletta) Cowen. Brother-in-laws, Udell (Georgia) Sanders and Frank (Esther) Sanders and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 17th at Good News Fellowship, 1252 W. Axton Rd in Ferndale, WA at 1:00 pm.

  1. My deepest sympathy go to Wendell’s family and friends . I hope you can draw comfort from what’s written in revelation 21:4 where it says “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”. What a wonderful promise, I am truly sorry for your loss.
