Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 17, 2017, during heart surgery. Virginia was born on February 18, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the only child of Frederick and Irene Bruchman. On January 7, 1949, she married her true love, Paul Poulsen in Astoria, OR. Virginia, a full-time mom, held it all together, raising three daughters during Paul’s many overseas tours in the Navy.
Virginia took joy in family, friends, holidays, people, music, dancing, animals, travel, a Seattle bowling league, gardening, flowers – especially roses – and helping others. She was a past member of the Seattle Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W., a church greeter, and a student with Bible Study Fellowship. Virginia was also a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association and the Northwest Harley Dressers, and served the latter as their Board Secretary. She relished the adventure of many road trips across the west, midwest, and Canada, seated with her husband on their blue “Hog”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, along with numerous other relatives. She is survived by her daughters Elaine Barness (Don Cummin), Christine Itter (Dennis), and Denise Ross (Ricky), ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
Her favorite charities were: Salvation Army – Bellingham, DAV (Disabled American Veterans – Seattle), and Light House Mission Ministries – Bellingham.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. at The Willows – 3115 Squalicum Parkway. A reception will follow.

  1. Denise says:

    I miss you, mom.

  2. I was not born until 1948 so I did not grow up with my cousin Virginia! But I remember her as a vibriant loving woman on visits with my Uncle Freddie and Aunt Irene many years ago. I remember Elaine, Christine and Denise as well and considered them my cousins and played with them. In those early days the Bruchman family was close and I frequently remember by father, Elmer Bruchman (Fred’s brother) and mother, Esther having Thanksgiving dinners with all of us. I know we shared having these dinners from year to year with my Aunt Maries Soss (Fred’s sister) as well.
We are so very sorry to hear of Virginia’s passing, she will be remembered in our prayers. Our Love and wishes for comfort and understanding to all the family.
