Violet R. Baughn, of Bellingham WA, an outstanding wife, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, died Jan. 18, 2013 just a few days before her 67th birthday.
She was born January 28, 1946, in Tacoma, WA, to the late Margaret and Albert Kratochvil and was raised in the Summit View area of Pierce County. She graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in1968 and went on to the U. of W. in September of 1964 earning a B.A. degree with a tri-major in Sociology, Anthropology and Psychology, graduating in 1968. Shortly after graduation she married Stephen Baughn of Tacoma and they embarked on 45 years of togetherness. Because Steve was in the Navy at the time he dragged her from coast to coast; California to Virginia.

While Theresa and Deb were in Middle School she taught at St. Francis Preschool for ten years shaping little minds and preparing them for the future. After ten years, wanting a change of pace, she enrolled at Whatcom Comm. Coll. and earned certification as a Chemical Dependency/Substance Abuse counselor. She worked for St. Joseph/PeaceHealth as a counselor for over ten years and had a lasting impact on hundreds of peoples lives.
She and Steve started traveling in 2002 with a trip to Ireland They made subsequent trips throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and the United States.

  1. Steve, Theresa and Deb, With our sincere sympathy and love on the passing of our dear Violet. She was a true gem and so very thoughtful and caring toward everyone she came to know. We felt so blessed to have her join our team at St. Francis Childcare Center as our fun-loving, creative preschool teacher. You are in our prayers.

  2. The Baughns would always take time from whatever they were doing to wave goodbye. It didn’t matter if you as a guest/family or the girls or Steve or Vi was headed out the door, a grand departure was awaiting to whomever was leaving. My family just visited around Christmas time. We all waved goodbye until the next time. Our hearts were not prepared for the news. Words cannot say how much this family means to our family.

    Dear Family,
Thinking of you as celebrate Vi’s life and all the love and positive energy she radiated to so many. She was such a kind and enthusiastic person, so giving and full of life. I won’t forget how intently she really listened when she asked questions, and how genuinely supportive she was. (What a smile!) She always went out of her way to send a card, a homemade gift, a good piece of advice. My heart is with you all, I wish I could be there in person. Here’s a prayer that I love, for Vi:

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

IDear Family, I loved working with Vi, she would do anything that was asked. Shse was such a kind and gentle spirtit, anytime I was out of sorts, I would go in Vi’s office and she would listen and put me back together again. She was so kind I read with deep regret the obit this morning and extent my condolences to her family, She was so much like my mom and a great mom I am sure. We worked together for ten years at St. Joe, I wish I could go to Tacoma to tell her family this but I know I speak for all of the Third Floor of St. Joes, She all loved her and would get “Vi to do it” She was sthe first one laid off and now the whole floor of Rec. Center is gone. So, she was the first and then everyone. We felt sorry for her and then it was our turn. I loved her. and I cried when I read she died She loved life and loved her family. and shared her trips with us. God Bless you guys. Linda Hall
