Obituary

Vernon D. Van Sant “Van,” passed away in Lynden, WA on Nov. 13, 2017. Van was born on Sept. 7, 1940 in Jamestown, CA to Marion & Ruby Van Sant. In 1962 Van married Sharon Francis. Together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and raised two children. A year after getting married, he graduated from The Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO with an M.S. in Chemical Engineering. Van worked as a Chemical Engineer for a variety of Petroleum Refineries, including the Hawaiian Refinery and a year and a half stint in Saudi Arabia. In 1972, he and Sharon moved to Bellingham when he went to work for The Anvil Corp. In his free time, Van enjoyed spending time in his woodshop, boating, reading, and the company of his family. Van is survived by his wife Sharon, children Tom (Anne) Van Sant & Holly Rooth, grandchildren; Hannah, Ben, Angela, & Joseph. A graveside service will be held for Van on Monday, Nov. 20, 1:00pm at Bayview Cemetery.
