Obituary

Verna May Jefferson was born May 30, 1934 to William and Delia (Solomon) Hoskin in Bellingham, Washington. At the age of 86 Verna passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on September 30, 2020. Verna was a beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother. She grew up on the Lummi Reservation and married her best friend Michael Jefferson on August 4, 1948 in Bellingham, Washington. Mike and Verna had 7 children Delfred Sr., William Sr., Anna, Thomas, Michella and Dora Jefferson and Michael Kurtz. Everyone who knew Verna will remember her as being a gentle soul with a one-of-a-kind laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. Verna took great pride in taking care of her family and home. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren who would all agree she was the best. No natter how old you were you were never too old for a kiss from Granny. Her favorite time of year was Firework Season where she would pack up the R.V. and move to the corner of Haxton and Slater for the entire firework season and sometimes even longer. While she enjoyed Firework Season, she loved fishing on Mikes perseiner The Elusive Dream. Verna always made sure the crew was fed and the boat was stocked with everything they needed. Verna is survived by her daughter Dora Jefferson (Jim Scarborough); son Michael (Lisa) Kurtz; grandson Delfred (Julie) Jefferson Jr.; brother Vernon Delanie Hoskin; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael Jefferson; children Delfred Sr., William Sr., Anna, Thomas and Michella Jefferson; grandchildren Christopher, Michael Sr., Jade Sr., Chardelle and Harvey Jefferson; parents William and Delia Hoskin; brothers William Jr., Elliot and Craig Hoskin.
