Obituary

Valgene “Val” Leighton, age 91, passed away May 23, 2018 in Boulder City, NV. Val was born to Walter and Eunice on Route 3 in Ferndale, WA, where she was raised through high school. Her quick smile and pleasant personality made her the perfect partner and sole wait person in the multiple incarnations of Lindy’s Cafe. By the time the interstate had closed their business for a second time (thanks Ike) Val and Lindy had established another business, The Double L mobile home park. She continued to efficiently run the park after Lindy’s passing until her mid-80s.

Following in her mother’s footsteps Val took up oil painting. She was very prolific and talented as displayed in the winning of multiple ribbons at the Lynden fair. For many years Val, Lindy and Eunice enjoyed camping and fishing in the Cascades with their grandchildren.

For the last several years Val had been living with her son and daughter-in-law in Henderson, Nevada. There she remained active in water aerobics at the senior center and her new Seven Day Adventist church in Boulder City. The many new and close friends she made are a testimony

to her wonderful personality. She was most definitely a people person.

Val is preceded in death by her husband Lindy, father Walter, mother Eunice, and brother Walt. She is survived by her children Lynda and Michael, grandchildren Chad and Danielle, and great-grandchildren Felix and Meadow.

A graveside service will be held on Friday June 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Enterprise Cemetery – 7041 Vista Dr. Ferndale, WA.

  2. Hello,

Myself and Sister Joyce are Cousins of Valene. We kept track of Val through the
years. Val was a wonderful Cousin and friend. What a Gal….we had many
lunches with her these last few years and it was a hoot! Always stories to tell
of adventures and families. Both my Sis Joyce and myself have some pictures
Val painted and we will always treasure them.

We will miss Val but our memories we will take with us forever

  3. Mike, We were sorry to hear about your mother’s passing and even sorrier that we were unable to attend her service. Conrad has many fond memories of after hour stops at Lindy’s to raid the refrigerator. We hope all is well with you. Jeanne and Conrad Koehn
