Obituary

Thomas John Moore was born in Edmonton, Alberta June 4, 1915 as the oldest of 9 children of John and Frances Moore. The family moved to British Columbia when Tom was very young and they lived in the New Westminster area. From a very young age, Tom loved to tear things apart and put them back together.

Tom had 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Roy, Robert, Dempster, Michael, Earl, May, Eileen, and Phyllis. He is survived by his sisters, Eileen of Chilliwack, BC and Phyllis of Winnipeg, Ontario. Tom loved to fish, hunt, and ride his motorcycle as a young man. He was a member of the Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club and took part in several club tours, riding from Vancouver to San Francisco on one of them. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club for many years in both Coos Bay and Ferndale.

Tom worked for 23 years for the Mohawk Handle Company as a millwright. During WWII, he was a member of the Pacific Coast Rangers. On a visit to Kelowna, BC, he met Elizabeth “Beth” Eadie. After corresponding for a while, they were married April 3, 1941. Their daughter, Dianne, was born in 1942 followed by their son, Thomas, in 1949.

In 1957, the Handle Company moved the family to their plant located in Coos Bay, Oregon, where he worked until the company closed and Tom then worked for Georgia Pacific. On a trip to visit relatives in BC, Tom put in an application at Intalco Aluminum Company and was hired. He worked for Intalco until his retirement. Tom and Beth enjoyed several cruise trips to Alaska, Bahamas, and a couple of trips to England and Scotland visiting relatives there.

He is survived by his daughter Dianne/David Williams, son Thomas/Joy Moore, grandson Alexander/Sherry Moore, granddaughter Alisha/Joel Nielsen, and great grandson, Colton Moore.

His wife,Beth, passed away in 2006. In 2012, Tom moved from their home in Ferndale, WA to a retirement community in Anacortes, WA. His last few years were spent at Rosario Assisted Living.
