  4. I will miss Tom…we were friends in school and we shared a special bond as both of us served our country in Vietnam. A memory I have carried all these years is when Tom and I bumped into each other on the streets of Da Nang. It was such a great feeling to see him, another Golden Eagle. We chatted, though briefly over the years, but I was so impressed with his spirit and concern for building up the youth of his community. Sharing his life experiences and values were key…and I know he inspired others to be the person we were created to be. Tom, you did good. You were a good man…you will be missed but your spirit will live on.

I first visited Tom and Carol Kinley when they were foster parents – in 1990 shortly after assuming the role of Lummi Children’s Services Coordinator. They had a few foster children and took in more during the time I worked with this tribal program. I was always impressed by their kindness and especially of the strength of character I saw in Tom. I continued to be impressed with his dedication to the children he took in and when I met his other children and a grandson, it cemented that wonderful feeling you get as a parent/friend of another family. This is a strong and loving family. I’m sad for the loss but he was a good good man and he is whole again. Praise be to God.
