Obituary

Steve was born in Monroe, WA on March 16, 1953. He passed away at his home in Bellingham on January 27, 2020.

He graduated from Everett High School and went on to sail with the Merchant Marines. After a terrible storm, he quickly realized that life at sea was not for him. Steve started as an Inspector at Intertek Caleb Brett and worked his way up to Manager. He then managed for over ten years at Inspectorate, finally retiring in 2018. Always the outdoorsman, Steve loved hunting and fishing, and also participated in Pigeon Racing. He loved the Lord and was baptized, along with his son, Luke, at Laurel Church in Bellingham, where he was a longtime member. More than anything, Steve loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren who were the jewels in his crown.

Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Beth Simmons; mother and step-father, Roberta and Bill Ripley; daughter, Kristen (Jonathan) DeBie; sons, Luke (Amber) Bernardy, Matt (Kierstin) Simmons, and Nate (Lesha) Simmons; his beloved grandchildren, Kaelene, Keziah, Kyrie, Leah, Leana, Jack, Carson, Henry, Katelyn, Hailey, Hudson, Oliver, Steve, Scout, Arlo, and Kaius.

Steve was laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park. The Memorial Service has been cancelled in favor of online sharing of memories. Pictures of Steve’s life will be shared online soon.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital or to Laurel Church.

  3. Beth and All the Kids;
    I’m so sorry for your loss of Steve.. What a Sweetheart. He was such a kind, sweet and helpful guy. I haven’t seen a lot of you since my move, but you’ll always be my lifelong friends, and I love you all.

  4. Please accept my sincere condolences for the death of your father – Kristen, Luke, Matt, and Nate – my former students. If our children are our legacy, your father’s legacy is the strength of character he instilled in each of you. I remember each of you vividly as outstanding citizens and students.
