Obituary

Shirley was born on July 29, 1950 in Grafton, North Dakota to Duane and Octavia Burling. The family moved to Seattle, WA in 1952. While she was in Seattle, she was diagnosed with a defect in her heart. Surgery was performed and successful making her the first pediatric survivor of an open heart surgery in the state of Washingtion. That same year she was the “Queen of Hearts” in the Seattle Seafair Parade. In 1964, the family then moved to Whatcom County. She attended Blaine High School where she was a cheerleader. After graduating high school she went to McDonalds Beauty College and got her cosmetology degree. She met Paul Klineman in 1969 and was married in 1971 at Calvary Temple in Bellingham, WA. They continued to reside in Whatcom County having three sons Ryan, Jeff and Kyle. She was a part of the community teaching aerobics at the Lynden YMCA. She enjoyed using her talents of hair dressing and making wonderful relationships with her clients. We will remember her as a loving, compassionate, empathetic, woman of faith, and her everlasting smile.

  1. Paul, please accept my condolences on the loss of your wife. I only just heard of her passing.

  2. Cathy Nelson says:

I enjoyed the times Shirley and I would be on the stair stepper together, with good fun conversation. For a few weeks she led a few of us in a series of machine exercises and was always knowledgeable about what our bodies needed. I will miss her laugh and our talks and am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Shirley, As your reading this now and watching over me always, please know that I miss you so much! I love you far beyond my words can say. God kept His promise to Jesus in bringing you home to Him. For that I rejoice. But as Jesus wept when Lazarus his friend passed, He understands my sorrow. One day I will see you again. Smile and keep watch over me. I can feel you so close! I love you! Diana
