Obituary

Sharon Marie (Anagnostou) Roof passed away in Bellingham on April 3, 2019.

Born in Bellingham on August 25, 1950, to William and Nellie Anagnostou, Sharon grew up in Kelso, Washington. She graduated Kelso H.S. Class of 1968, attended Western Washington State College and Whatcom Community College. She married Mike Roof on October 5, 1974. From 1975-2006 she worked in Accounts Receivable and Registration at WCC. As Union Representative for WCC, she was politically active.

Sharon was generous and enjoyed being with family and friends. She had a wicked sense of humor and was always good for sharing the best jokes. She had a wonderful way of making people smile and laugh – a true gift indeed. As the secret Easter Bunny, she delivered as many as 500 baskets to friends and co-workers.

She loved spoiling and pampering her pets! Sharon was an avid reader and participated in Book Clubs. Going to the movies, swimming, and traveling were all activities she enjoyed. Whatcom Agility Team and Whatcom Community College Retirees were groups that Sharon helped organize.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father William Anagnostou, her sister Marianne Anagnostou Stiltz, and her father-in-law Cliff Roof. She is survived by her loving husband Mike Roof, mother Nellie Anagnostou, brother Gerald Anagnostou (Elaine), sister Lisa Dallas (Bill), mother-in-law Dolores Roof, brother-in-law Kevin Roof, brother-in-law Tom Stiltz, and dear friend Mary Drahos, along with ten nieces and nephews.

At Sharon’s request, there will be no services, but you can remember her by making a donation to your local animal shelter.

  1. I am honored to have had Sharon as a friend for almost 50 years. All who knew her will remember her laugh and great smile. She was a good communicator; sharing her opinion or organizing Halloween parties, stuffing hundreds of Easter baskets, or arranging social groups ( movies, books, cards, WCC retires). She enjoyed travel, plays, dancing, and people. She loved to read and learn. I will think of her every time I watch Jeopardy. My condolences and prayers go out to Mike, their puppies and her family. She’ll be greatly missed.

  2. We were all so blessed to have Sharon in our family! Even though we didn’t get to see her as often because of distance, I always loved it when we had a big family event and heard Sharon would be there. She was such a bright shining light and her genuine love and concern for others was so heartfelt. And her laughter was so contagious! I loved how she always remembered and sent flowers for my Mom and Dad’s birthdays, and how she always remembered details about our lives. SHe had a special connection with my daughter Kelsey and it was mutual.
Sharon will be missed so much but we will keep her light and love in our hearts forever.

  3. Sharon: your light, laughter, and goodwill having touched the lives of so many continues to live. Your memory is with us forever.

  4. Sally Bakken says:

Sharon and I were a part of a large group hired at WCC in 1975. I was one of the lucky recipients of her Easter baskets each year. People usually drift apart after retirement, but not when Sharon was involved. She gathered us regularly, not to be the center of attention, but to let us enjoy our history, our present, and our hopes for the future. It is hard to imagine life without Sharon.
