Obituary

On June 8, 2015 Sara Korman’s body died of lung disease at the age of 74 so her spirt could soar with the angels.

Sara’s soul entered her body on October 16, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas and she grew up in the small town of Sublette, Kansas. Sara has lived in Kansas, Panama, Indiana, Ohio, Northern California, Southern California, Arizona and Washington. She graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Accounting in 1982 and owned several businesses in California. Sara retired to Deming, Washington in 1997 living below her beloved Mt. Baker for six and half years before moving into Bellingham.

Sara was a bibliophile, ailurophile and loved to crochet. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Puget Sound Blood Bank where donors may remember her smiling face at the center and on mobile drives at area high schools and colleges.
Sara was always willing to go where needed.

Sara was a member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning, the American Red Cross, and Deming Library where she held a volunteer position as Treasurer for the Friends of the Deming Library.

She is predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Ethel Orth, and her brother Robert Orth.

Sara is survived by her son Richard Cravens, his wife Michele, grandchildren Harry, Clarisse and Lorelei of Albuquerque; daughter Leesa Shirley and her husband Tim of San Diego; Cami and Bonnie.

Sara’s friends and family meant the world to her. Sara’s family thanks her dear friends for taking care of her when her family could not and for cheering her soul. You were a godsend to our mother in life and to us in her passing.

Memorials may be sent to the American Red Cross, the Deming Library, the Whatcom County Humane Society, Bellingham Food Bank, or donate a pint of blood in her name.

  2. Sara was the matriarch to our neighborhood. The time she spent with us was exceptional. She will be missed so very much and remembered for a very long time. Her passing leaves us all with deep sorrow. Knowing her was a true privilege. Our condolences to her family.
