Obituary

Sandy Slover, age 74, of Bellingham, passed away on January 20, 2022. She was born on
May 19, 1947 in Willmar, Minnesota to Stanley and Hilda Bergstrand.
Sandy graduated from San Bernadino High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s
degree from Cal State University San Bernadino and University of California – Berkeley. Sandy
then attended Loyola Marymount University – Loyola Law School where she met the love of her
life and future life partner, Bill Slover.
Bill and Sandy were married on June 17, 1978, in Pacific Palisades, California. They were
voracious travelers who, along with their daughter Stephanie and later son-in-law Victor,
travelled the world. Some of Sandy’s favorite memories include visiting her ancestral family
farm in Sweden and showing Victor the beautiful hill towns of Italy.
After Sandy retired as a Program Manager working in continuing education at Western
Washington University, she had more time to enjoy favorite activities such as writing, reading,
puzzles, cooking and, of course, being an outstanding mother.
First and foremost, Sandy was a dedicated mother, treasuring her daughter Stephanie
and every moment spent together. Sandy was always honest, caring, and supportive, traits she
also translated to adopting cats over the years, even when the cats were not technically hers.
Vivacious and loving, family fondly called Sandy “The Big Swede” for her larger-than-life
presence. She enjoyed wonderful gatherings of friends and family, full of fellowship and love.
Sandy will be remembered for her wonderfully bright smile, a good happy laugh, and her
adventurous outlook on life.
Sandy is preceded in death by her father Stanley Bergstrand; mother Hilda Bergstrand
(Johnson) and brothers Bryan, Jeff, Lanny and Sherwood Bergstand.
Sandy will be sorely missed and is survived by her husband of 43-years, Bill, daughter Stephanie
Martinez, son-in-law Victor Martinez, and nephew Jonathan Bergstrand.

Bill, condolence to you and family on the bereavement of your recent loss.

    God’s Garden:
God looked around His garden, He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth, He saw a tired face.
He puts His arms around her
    He lifted her to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful – He always takes the best.
He knew that she was suffering – He knew she was in pain.

He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed her weary eyelids – And whispered, ‘Peace be thine’.
