Obituary

SADIE PEARL (GOODING) HOHL
6/27/1919 TO 7/3/2015

Mom achieved her long-awaited wings in the afternoon of Friday, July 3, 2015, at the grand age of 96! Her spirit at last dashed away to reunite with her much beloved husband Jerry who passed away in 1978 and with the apple-of-her-eye son, Jerry who passed in 2010. Her little dog MaiTai is most assuredly on her lap licking her face.

Pearl was the fourth of five children of Whatcom County pioneers Ed and May Gooding of the Y Road. She is survived by her younger brother, George Gooding and his wife Carol of Bellingham, sister-in-law Virginia Gooding of Lynden, daughter-in-law Kathy Maricle of Bellingham, and friend and former daughter-in-law Molly Schoenfeld of Blaine. She is also survived by me, her loving daughter Candy and husband Don McIntosh of Sapphire Trail, Bellingham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her loving and attentive caregivers at St. Francis Extended Health Care, who made her last year on earth a mostly enjoyable and rewarding experience, entertaining and bonding with many “daughters and sons” in the A wing.

Mom was a woman who, in the 70’s, had what we called “spunk.” She was a loyal friend, a fiercely-protective loving mother, and an adoring wife who rolled up her sleeves working side-by-side with Dad building their two Bellingham homes. She was a true homemaker, excelling in the kitchen, loved gardening, crafting and sewing projects, particularly enjoying stitching up ball gowns as she and Dad graced the dance floors at the Bellingham Elk’s Club and VFW. They were accomplished ballroom dancers and always seemed to draw an audience. Quite a couple, indeed!

Pearl was preceded to that place of no more tears by her parents and siblings Edna, Harvey and best friend Nina.

Well Mom, it’s been a long bumpy ride but you are finally with all the family you loved and missed so very much. You were such a trooper navigating this life of much happiness and much sadness. Just know that a part of your spirit will reside in my heart until we meet again in that happy place. My heart is getting pretty crowded, but there is always room for one more, especially for my Momma.
