Obituary

Ruie Marie (Clarke) Dunnigan passed away peacefully on December 3, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born August 6, 1922 to Daniel Edwin Clarke and Ruie (Fox) Clarke. They lived on Pine St. in Bellingham for a short time before moving to Liberty St. in Bellingham, which was her childhood home. She attended the Normal School at Western Washington, then attended and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1940.

After high school, she married her childhood sweetheart, Wilfred J. Dunnigan, on September 29, 1943. Together they raised 6 children at their family home on McLeod Rd. in Bellingham. She started a career in 1975, working with people with developmental disabilities until her retirement in 1985. In her free time, Ruie enjoyed fishing with her husband for steelhead on the Hoh river.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, her sister Vivian, and her husband of 69 years, Wilfred. She is survived by sons Michael (Janice) Dunnigan, Patrick Dunnigan, and Daniel (Debbie) Dunnigan; daughters Mary (Ted) McClung, Carol (Rich) Siden, and Laurie (Michael) Morris; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Ruie had a unique sense of humor, which lives on in all 6 of her children.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Church (2116 Cornwall Ave. Bellingham) followed by an inurnment at noon at Greenacres Memorial Park (5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale).
