Obituary

With deep love and sorrow, we share the passing of Rosalie Jeanette Slagle, who departed this life on May 6, 2025, at the age of 86. Rosalie was a brave, devout, hardworking, intelligent, and deeply loving woman—someone who spent her life seeking truth, adventure, and connection with others.

Born during the tail end of the Great Depression and raised through the trials of World War II, Rosalie carried a keen sense of justice and resilience from a young age. A lifelong advocate for equality, her early memories shaped a fierce spirit that championed opportunity—not only for herself but especially for her children. She gave her family every chance to thrive, to play, to explore, and to be more than what society expected.

Rosalie’s career began behind the counter of a local drugstore soda fountain and blossomed into a fulfilling life’s work in human resources. She found her calling at Smith Gardens in Ferndale, WA, and later at Storm Products in California, where she helped guide and support others through both professional growth and life’s personal challenges. Her kindness, wisdom, and empathy touched countless lives.

Despite life’s financial challenges, Rosalie created a world of fun and adventure for her children—berry picking, babysitting, delivering newspapers—all framed as exciting chances to learn, bond, and grow. That was her magic: turning struggle into strength, and the ordinary into something beautiful.

Rosalie is survived by her son, Derek Slagle; daughter, Audrey Roth; sister, Dorothy Peters; and longtime partner, Ted Butenschoen. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren—Ashley, Kurt, Gabriella, Amanda, and Katherine; her cherished great-grandchildren Lily and Sheila Rose (with one on the way); and her much-loved niece and nephews.

She will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, her stories, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to ‘Boys Town’ or ‘Doctors without Borders’, two of Rosalie’s favorite charities.
