Obituary

Roger was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1940 and raised in Everett, WA. A perennial athlete, he had a passion for golf, and was proud of his single digit handicap. He was a runner, handball and racquetball player, bowler, and hiker. Roger served in the Coast Guard in Alaska. Newly married to Charlot, they experienced the 1964 9.2 Earthquake and Tsunami, and Roger took part in rescue efforts. He graduated from Linfield College with a B.S. in mathematics and worked as a Computer Systems Specialist for over 30 years with the Snohomish County PUD. In retirement, Roger reveled in playing with his grandkids. He spent time with his mother, bowled with his brother, geo-cached, golfed, and traveled; favorites included Costa Rica and Switzerland. He read science fiction, Jane Austen, and mysteries aloud with Charlot, and attended theater and musical events. His playlist ranged from Beethoven to ABBA. Roger was keen on puzzles and playing board games with friends and family. He was a lifelong lover of cats. A man of many facets with a wonderful smile and twinkles in his eyes, Roger’s memory is treasured by his children Kevin and Kelly, grandchildren McKenna and Patrick and their mother Maryanne, brother Denny, and extended family. He was preceded in passing by his parents Johnny and Vina Mills. Along with family, Roger’s great love was mountains. His ashes were scattered along with Charlot’s near his favorite summit, Three Fingers of the North Cascades.

A joint celebration of life for Roger and Charlot will be held Sunday October 7, 2018 at 2PM at the Bellingham Yacht Club.

Roger and his wife Charlot were my best friends at Linfield College. We stayed in touch for many years after leaving Linfield. But during the past fifteen years or so, I was too busy with my own life and failed to continue cherish the friendship. With a deep sense of loss and regrets.
