Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert Wieland on April 8^th, 2025, in Bellingham, WA. Bob was born on July 10^th, 1956, in Sumas, WA.

After growing up in Spokane, Bob headed west in search of better job opportunities.  He was a member of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons for 47 years. He spent many years with Gary Merlino Construction.  At 55, when playing with concrete became too hard on his body, Bob retired and pursued a new career as a school bus driver for the Highline School District.

Bob coached and umpired Little League in his younger years.  He followed the Mariners, Seahawks, and Huskies, but his true love was the Washington State Cougars. Not a day would go by when you didn’t hear him say “Go Cougs.”

Bob enjoyed spending time on Orcas Island, especially if it meant he could take his boat out and go fishing, shrimping, or crabbing.

He brought kindness and care to everything he did. He was the kind of guy who would take the shirt off his back to give to someone who needed it more.  Whether he was sharing stories from “the good old days” or just making us laugh, he has given us memories we will carry for a lifetime. Even if some of them are not the most appropriate.

Bob loved his family above all, and he showed it. He was always there when needed, with a proud smile, gentle advice, or just a reassuring hand on the shoulder.

Bob is survived by his wife, Karen Wieland, his two children, Michelle and Scott Wieland, and his granddaughter, Cassidy Wieland, each of whom carries forward a part of his legacy. Though he is no longer with us in person, his love lives on in every shared memory, every family tradition, and every moment of laughter from this point forward.

A celebration of Life will be held on June 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Burien Elks Club, located at 14006 1st Avenue South, Burien, WA.
