Obituary
Robert S. Mickelson, age 91, passed away on July 27, 2012, in Bellingham, Washington. He was born December 7, 1920, in Killdeer, North Dakota, to Myrtle and William Mickelson, one of four children. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1939. He turned 21 on Pearl Harbor Day in 1941. Robert enlisted in the Navy on June 12, 1944, served on a minesweeper in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He met and married Grace I. Kreitzberg in 1946. They lived in Seattle and had two daughters, later moving to Bellevue.
He was a CPA for many years before having his own practice in 1978. He and Grace moved to Bellingham in 2003. They were on the organizing committee of Aldersgate Methodist Church in 1962 and were also charter members. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, in 2010. He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Arthur) Shahly and Carolyn (David) Smith; grandchildren Erika Hanson, Silver Smith and Daisy (Clayton) Ward; great grandchildren, Scarlet, Lauren, Andrew, Julian and Colin. There will be a memorial service at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity. “Flowers don’t last, charities do.”
