Obituary

Robert M. Paulson, 88, passed away at his home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on September 18, 2012. Bob was born February 3, 1924 in Acme WA to Ole and Gudren Paulson. Bob was raised in Clipper WA and graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1942. During WWII he served in Panama as Navy Seaman 2nd Class; Aircraft Mechanic (19431946). He returned home from New York cross-country on a 1946 Harley Davidson to marry his high school sweetheart, L. Lillian Ingersoll on December 27, 1946 and built a home in Van Zandt WA where he spent the rest of his life.

Bob attended WSU studying to be a scientist; but returned to logging, working as a bucker/faller until 1962 when he became a Dairy Farmer. Retiring in the 70s, he worked as a contractor, building homes, then as a farm-hand for a local farmer. As an avid hiker, Bob climbed to the top of Mt. Baker, spending the night. He also hiked the Twin Sisters, Tomahoy Lake and the Pesaytan Wilderness. During this time, he got back on a Harley motorcycle with Lillian and did many rides around Washington and down through Death Valley. As an avid biker, he rode rain or shine with 3 rides to Sturgis and 2 trips to Milwaukee to attend Harley Anniversary celebrations. At 83, he rode to Tennessee to ride the Tail of the Dragon Road. His creative side showed in taking pictures and welding things in his shop.

On March 1, 2009, he accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior and was baptized shortly after in his hot tub.

He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Stephen Paulson.

He is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Melvin) Kuipers; son Albert (Patricia) Paulson; son W. Ole Paulson; and daughter-in-law Judith Paulson; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

  1. Bob had a great sense of humor and I was honored to have known him. He always belonged to God; it just took him awhile to figure it out!

  2. Bob had a wonderful dry sense of humor and after spending time with him I was always left with a sense of goodwill and peace.. I remember one evening I flew Bob from Curlew to Bellingham. As we flew over Mount Baker the sun was setting and it lit up the western sky in a display of brilliant oranges and yellows. It was a metaphor for the sunset of Bob’s life: beauty, peace, and grace. I am going to miss him so much.

.Please accept my sympathy to the loving Family & Friends in the painful loss of your dearly loved Bob. He lived such a full life & will be long remembered by all who knew & loved Him. May you find a measure of hope, comfort & peace in the Bible Verses that follow. Rev21:4-5,6 “AND HE WILL WIPE OUT EVERY TEAR FROM THEIR EYES AND DEATH WILL BE NO MORE. THE FORMER THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY.”

  4. The dear Lord above blessed me so deeply with a wonderful loving friend of Bob (Dad). He was gracious enough to give me away at my wedding and always had such a beautiful smile on his face. I will deeply miss you Dad, but now you are back with your beautiful bride and loving father, Jesus Christ. I will forever love you and miss you until the day I see your smiling face again!
