Obituary

Robert “Bob” L. McCauley Sr.

Robert Bob Louis McCauley, Sr. passed away June 25, 2013. He was born to George and Ruth McCauley December 29, 1925 in Friday Harbor, WA. Bob lived most of his life in the Whatcom County area. Like many young men in that time, Bob quit school to join the military to fight in World War II.

Bobs career after the war was in construction. He took part in building Baker Dam and parts of Interstate 5. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Emily Chapin. Together they worked hard raising a family, teaching them work ethic, family values and most importantly, how to love.
Bob retired from Wilder Construction and he and Emily moved to Lopez Island for a time. Always working hard, Bob started a successful backhoe business. He also obtained his real estate license and sold property on the island.
To be closer to family, Bob and Emily returned to Whatcom County in 1988 to be able to enjoy and spoil their grandchildren. Bob had a great love for family, friends, his country and the Lord. He touched many lives during his time on earth and he will be greatly missed.

Bob is preceded in death by his brothers Ed and Jack McCauley and sisters Annie Brown and Charlaine Gustafson. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Emily; sons Bob (Martha) McCauley, Randy McCauley and Matt McCauley all of Custer; daughter Sue (Tom) Patton of Oak Harbor; sons from a previous marriage Bernie (Paula) Dybdahl of Las Vegas and Mike Dybdahl of Tacoma; grandchildren Linda, Ryan and John McCauley and Emily and Sarah Patton of Oak Harbor; sisters Adele Crnich of Bellingham and Virginia Craiger of Deming; brother Ron (Dorothy) McCauley of Bellingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
