Obituary

Robert Bob H. Smith, age 97, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 in Everett, WA. He was born March 6, 1916 in Olean, New York, and was raised by James & Helen Smith. Bob served in the US Marine Corps during WWII from 1941-1945 in the South Pacific including Iwo Jima.

He started working for Mobil Refinery in New York, and in 1954 was transferred to their refinery in Ferndale, WA (currently operating as Cherry Point Refinery), retiring after 40 years.

Bob was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks in Olean, New York, and a lifetime member of the Elks, also active in the Bellingham Lodge #194. He was a member of the Ferndale American Legion, and served on Ferndales City Council. Bob was an avid sports fan his whole life.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorine in 1988; sister Marie Wheaton; and brothers Thomas Lawler and John Lawler.

Bob is survived by his daughter Karen (her husband Ed) Noack of Everett, WA; grandson Nick Noack of Seattle, WA; and brother James (his wife Caroline) Lawler of Boynton Beach, FL.
