Obituary

Robert E. Johnson entered the embrace of his Savior on December 24, 2021. Pastor Bob Johnson was not only an absolute rock for his family, but was a kind, benevolent soul who championed and supported others in need throughout his life. An accomplished yet humble man generous with his time and spirit, he could provide his undivided attention to friends and strangers alike. Growing up in Great Falls, MT, Bob was an accomplished student in high school, where he excelled at baseball and sang in a barbershop quartet. After attending Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, he entered Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN and was ordained in 1959. After serving parishes in Conrad, Montana, Harlem, Montana and Pinehurst, Idaho, Pastor Bob and his family moved to Ferndale, Washington where he served both Christ and Zion Lutheran Churches for 15 years. Retiring from the ministry in 1997, he would still occasionally step in to officiate a service, wedding, or funeral. Bob remained active in retirement: the yard never looked better, and possessing an easy, natural swing, he enjoyed golfing with friends and family. He also regularly lent his golden tenor voice as a member of his church choirs, even up to the last week of his life. Pastor Bob touched and impacted countless lives through the life he lived and modeled, full of kindness and grace.

Bob is preceded in death by parents Milton & Maude Johnson, and brother Myron Johnson.

He is survived by loving wife Jennifer Johnson; sons: Nathan (Eva Molnar) Johnson, Douglas (Joan Levergood) Johnson, and Jeffrey Johnson; grandson Julian Johnson (son of Nathan and Eva); sisters Shirley McCoy & Bonnie (David) Schirk; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Pastor Bob epitomized all that was said in his obituary…so kind, attentive, gracious, and on and on. It was a privilege to have known him as a pastor and friend (because he always treated you as a friend). Peace to Jennifer and the family.
