Obituary

Robert (Bob) Allen Hayes, Bellingham, WA passed away on June 22,
2024, surrounded by his family. Bob was born June 9, 1942, in Olean, NY, to
Donald and Irene (Pikulski) Hayes. His family moved to Bellingham in 1954 as
part of Mobil Oil’s relocation and new refinery in Ferndale. He lived in
Bellingham the rest of life.

Bob graduated from Bellingham High School in 1960, participating in basketball
and track and field. He held the school high jump record for a number of years
using the Western Roll technique. In 1964, he married Diane Fullaway and
enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage.

Bob was a talented carpenter and general contractor who over his 50 years of
work, contributed to numerous buildings, houses and projects throughout
Bellingham and the surrounding area. For the past 30 years he and Diane lived
in a home built with his own hands.

Bob loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing the Nooksack, hiking or working
in his yard. He was a passionate golfer and won many local club
championships. Bob was also an avid sports fan, cheering especially for the
Washington State Cougars and St. Bonaventure “Bonnies.” All eight of his
grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved being part of their lives and
watching them grow up.

Family was the center of Bob’s life. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Diane;
children: Cindy Stavig (Gregg), Michelle Hart (John), and Brian Hayes
(Shannon); 8 grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Daniel, Andrew, Elizabeth,
Sean, Joseph, and Jacob; sister Gail Schenck (Ed); preceded in death by his

    Diane and family,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Bob. Bob was like another brother to me, we had so many adventures together going fishing, golfing or just talking about the Cougars or the Huskies. Bob would always talk about how proud and fortunate he was to have a family like he had and how special his grandchildren are. I was attending the track meet at Bellingham High School when he broke the conference high jump record. He also won the club championship several times at the Grandview golf course, I was his caddy. Bob was very special with a great sense of humor. I have so many special memories of spending time with Bob talking, laughing and telling stories about some of our experiences. I am very sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. There are no words to describe my sadness at the passing of my friend Bob. I will always miss Bob and sharing time together…..
